Punt. Skip the $18 camping reservation, stay dry, and safe in a hotel room. Today's drive looked very different than planned.
Kansas - Missouri - Illinois - Indiana - Kentucky (Approximately 650 miles.). The Kentucky Welcome Center pictured here, and our 'NOT' standard set-up. As far as Welcome To Our State Centers, Kentucky does a fantastic job. The Center looks like the entrance to a Derby. Sassenach easily adapted to our room for the night: The Lexington, Kentucky Days Inn & Suites by Wyndam, picked solely based on location, price and pet accommodations. This was the first day I spent cash since I left home six days ago - the hotel expense and a quick dinner so I didn't have to dig anything out of the car. Oh and I guess I ate the $18 reservation expense.
Today was a L O N G driving day. There was more "A Promised Land" by Barack Obama, read by Barack Obama - the audio book is over 20 hours....and SiriusXM 80s station. Again, I would sing so loud and bop around in my seat that Sassenach must have thought I was losing my mind. You would think she would get used to this behavior at this point. I also spoke with my mom, my sons, Elyse, Sarah, and did some school business with an order I placed for our school store, The Den. Everyone did help time pass more quickly! Thank you for that assist!
Best part of the day? Worst part of the day?
Best: Catching up with everyone on hands-free calls! Oh...and I get to see Benoit tomorrow!
Worst: Longest drive day and fighting boredom...but, also now know what the tolerance level is for both me and Sassenach. Give/Take 650 miles.
Lesson Learned: Don't feel defeated, or like you gave up, when having to adjust initial plans. It is what it is. Roll with it.
We learn to improvise adapt and over come. Way to adjust.
I'm glad you're enjoying your time on the road.
